11-15-09 PM - Learning to Live Again: Living A Life of Serenity

Click here to download: Live A Life Of Serenity

1) The PROMISE of Peace

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
- John 16:33

Not only does Jesus not take away all of our troubles, He promises us that there will be more to come.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
- Matthew 6:34

2) THE PERSON OF PEACE
You will not live a life of serenity by seeking peace from any other source but Jesus Christ.
He would be a, “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6) and that is what He is.

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
- Romans 5:1-2

Why do we have peace? “because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.”
Done, Finished, no more needs to be added.

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
- John 14:27

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
– Isaiah 26:3

1. The first word is “thoughts” or “mind.”
In fact, the disruption of our inner peace occurs when the mind is fixed on the wrong goal, or no goal at all, or too many goals.

2. The second word is “fixed.”
James 1:8
James said: Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

3. The third word is “God.”
"Our hearts are restless until they find rest in God."

4) THE POWER OF PEACE
1. The Power of Intimacy with God
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

2. The Power of Mental and Emotional Stability
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

3. The Power of Christian Community
Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. Ephesians 4:3

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next.
Amen.
