MATTHEW 28:16-20 KJV
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
So what were the main things my parents wanted us to remember?
-No fighting
- Don’t be out after dark
- Go to bed clean
The NIV translates verse 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Making disciples is a teaching process of leading people through steps of obedience to the things that Jesus has commanded us to do.
The two greatest commands that Jesus gave us are:
1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart soul mind and strength.
2. Love your neighbor as yourself.
1. PERSONALLY PURSUING CHRIST Heb. 11:6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
A. THE WORD
Ask: Does the bible live in me? Do I give it time to speak to me?
B. PRAYER-
S.D. Gordon said “The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is pray. It is not the only thing but it is the chief thing. The great people of the earth today are the people who pray. I do not mean those who talk about prayer; or those who say they believe in prayer; or those who can explain about prayer; but I mean THOSE PEOPLE WHO TAKE TIME TO PRAY.”
James Montgomery “Prayer is the Christian’s vital breath, the Christian’s native air; his watchword at the gates of death-he enters heaven with prayer.”
C. WORSHIP- Worship is simply showing the worth of an object. It is more than the songs we sing.
Worship is all about Him!!!
2. PRESSING INTO RELATIONSHIPS Heb. 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Christian maturity is forged in the crucible of relationships.
John 17:21 That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
3. PASSIONATELY SERVING OTHERS 1Pe 4:10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
There are all kinds of gifts to be used in the body of Christ. There are spiritual gifts that God gives the church to help it function. Administration, Apostleship, Craftsmanship (pulpit-House of honor-window trim in sanctuary etc.), Discernment, Encouragement, Evangelism, Faith, Giving, Healing, Helps, Hospitality, Intercession, Interpretation, Knowledge, Leadership, Mercy, Miracles, Prophecy, Pastoring, Teaching, Tongues, Wisdom, to mention a few of them.
Work- Doing what we have been called to do. “Joy”
Toil- striving to do what we are not called to do. “Sweat”
PRODUCE OTHER DISCIPLES Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
