The “EX” FACTOR IN THE JAR

MATTHEW 26:6-13 3/7/10 PM

6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper,7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they asked.9 "This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor."10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.11 The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.13 I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."

1. THE EXTRAVAGANSE OF WORSHIP (7)
7. a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

Worship is action that puts the object of worship in its rightful place.

Matthew 12:40
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

2.THE EXASPERATION OF THE DISCIPLES

8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they asked.

When we only look through the natural eye we miss the intentions of the spirit.

Matthew 5:21-22
"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.'22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry (to provoke or enrage) with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca, (“moros”-worthless)' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool (blockhead)' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

There is a refining that takes place in the spiritual realm. And it always exposes the motive of the heart.

Mt. 16:23. "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

3. THE EXPANSE OF THE GOSPEL (13)

13 I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."

Let your kingdom come and your will… (finish)

Col 3:17
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

The Kingdom is not so much about Jesus as it is His righteous rule. The atmosphere, climate, culture, and way of life that God intends for His people to walk in.

Romans 14:17
For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness (equity of character) and peace (prosperity) and joy (cheerfulness, calm delight) in (that is a relation of rest) the Holy Spirit.
18 For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men.
