Pondering the Proverbs

“Pride is the only DISEASE known to man that makes everyone SICK except the one who has it”

1. What Pride Is:
  • The GOOD Pride
  • The BAD Pride
“Pride, the idolatrous worship of SELF, is the national religion of HELL.”

2. What “Bad” Pride Does (The 3-D’s)
  • Leads to DISGRACE Proverbs 11:2, Luke 14:11
Andrew Murray: The truth is this – pride must die in you or noting of heaven can live in you.
  • Leads to DISPUTES
  • Leads to DISCIPLINE
3. What You Can Do About It:
  • Perform a REALITY CHECK Proverbs 29:23
  • HUMBLE YOURSELF before God Proverbs 22:4
  • REVIEW, REPENT, RENEW
Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn your back on evil. Then you will gain renewed health and vitality. Proverbs 3:7-8

“Pride is the king of vices…it is the first of the pallbearers of the soul… other vices destroy only their opposite virtues, as wantonness destroys chastity; greed destroys temperance; anger destroys gentleness; but PRIDE DESTROYS ALL VIRTUES”

Luke 15
3 parables…
  • Lost coin
  • Lost sheep
  • Lost son

God loves people so much and misses them,
and is on a mission to bring them home

Paul put it like this:

For God wants all people
- every one -
to be saved and come to a knowledge of the Truth.

- 1 Timothy 2:4

I. A Bridge to our Community
Is our current evangelism working?
Why is “evangelism” so hard?
Why is “witnessing” so scary?

Maybe we need to adjust our approach?

Traditional Methods
  • SWAT Team Evangelism
  • Sales Evangelism
  • Fire Insurance Evangelism
  • Linebacker Evangelism

II. A Bridge to our Friends
Ordinary, normal people talking to ordinary, normal people.

III. A Bridge to the World

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” - Acts 1:8

What Makes God Celebrate?

"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate.

For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'

So they began to celebrate.”
