MARK15:21; 16:1-20

So I want you to turn with me to Mark15:21 to the end of chapter 16.
1.    THE EVIDENCE OF CHRIST’S DEATH
EVIDENCE:
A.    The nature and extent of His injuries.
The Jews mercifully limited flogging to a maximum of forty stripes; the Romans had no such limitation. The following is a medical doctor’s description of the physical effects of flogging.
The heavy whip is brought down with full force again and again across Jesus shoulders, back, and legs. At first the heavy thongs cut through the skin only. Then, as the blows continue, they cut deeper in the subcutaneous tissues, producing first and oozing of blood from the capillaries and veins of the skin, and finally spurting arterial bleeding from vessels in the underlying muscles. Finally the skin of the back is hanging in long ribbons and the entire area is an unrecognizable mass of torn, bleeding tissue.
B. The nature of crucifixion assures death.
C. Those who heard His death cry at the cross.
Father into your hands I commit my spirit and he breathed His last.”
D. The Roman executioner pronounced him dead.
E. His side was pierced.
F. Pilate had His death confirmed.
G. He was wrapped in cloth and placed in a sealed tomb for three days.
H. Early Christian writers affirmed it.

Polycarp “Our Lord Jesus Christ, who for our sins suffered even unto death.”
Josephus “Pilate at the suggestion of the principal men among us, had condemned Him to the cross.”
The Jewish Talmud “On the eve of the Passover they hanged Yeshu.”

2. THE EVIDENCE OF CHRIST’S RESURRECTION
a. The sealed and guarded tomb was empty.
b. The same body that was laid in the tomb scars and all appeared to over 500 different people on 12 different occasions in a 40 day period.
c. Jesus appeared to many including Thomas who was challenged to touch His wounds.
d. There is record of four occasions when He ate physical food.
e. Mary and other women touched Him as well. He was seen with the eyes and heard with the natural ears.
f. He taught His disciples for 40 days and performed miracles in their presence.
g. Both Roman and Jewish sources testify to the empty tomb of this very prominent figure after the third day.
h. Matthew 28:12-13 says the chief priests devised a plan to cover the truth of the resurrection.
i. The authorities could have put an end to this teaching if they could have produced a body to say otherwise. Have you ever tried to hide a dead body?
j. How about the scattered and timid disciples prior to His death who are now right back in the face of those who killed Him proclaiming the Messiah that was now raised from the dead. Ten of these disciples would be martyred because they believed and preached the resurrected Christ. Why would they be willing to be martyred for a dead lie.
k. And then we have the throngs of people who believed and still do today in the message of the risen Christ because the Holy Spirit helps our spirit to bear witness to the truth.

3. THE EVEIDENCE IN OUR LIFE.
John 14:19 "After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.
Luk 12:5 "But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!
Rev 1:18 I am the Living One. I was dead. But look! I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys to Death and Hell.
John 5:28-29 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
John 11:25-26 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
Romans 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Easter!!!!  It is a time to celebrate the resurrected Christ who died once for all and has been raised to life so that all who call upon His name may have the eternal life.
Eggs and bunnies are fine but if you don’t tell of the resurrected Christ it is just a fairy tale.
He lives and He is coming back just as sure as you and I are alive today.

Luke 19:28-44
Luke 19:28b-31 "As He approached Bethphage & Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples, saying to them, `Go to the village ahead of you, & as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it & bring it here. If anyone asks you, `Why are you untying it?’ tell him, `The Lord needs it.’"

John 10:14-18
14  "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—15  just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
Read John 12:23-36

1. THE PEOPLES RESPONCE
-Perhaps some of them would greet Him with laughter.
-Perhaps some would think, "He is a lunatic,
-Others would greet Him with anger
-Of course, many would hail Him with joy
Luke 19:37b …the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

2. THE RIDE TOWARD THE CITY

There were those who loved Him:
Bartimaeus
Zacchaeus
the lepers
Jairus’ daughter
Lazarus & Mary & Martha & Mary Magdalene

There were also sinister faces:
Sadducees & Pharisees
Romans
the apostles
Peter
Thomas
Andrew
James & John

3.. THE TEARS OF JESUS

Luke 19:41-44. "As He approached Jerusalem & saw the city, He wept over it & said, `If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace - but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you & encircle you & hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you & the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.’"

"I didn’t come for that purpose. I came to show you a more excellent way. I came to show you the way of love."
"Love your enemies & pray for those who persecute you. If someone smites you on the cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone wants your coat, give him your shirt as well. If they command you to carry their pack a mile, go two."

Jerusalem, Jerusalem. How often would I have gathered you together as a hen gathers her chicks beneath her wings. But you would not come."

Rev 19:11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but He himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Isaiah 55:8-11
8  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10  For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

1. THE SEED IS THE WORD

The greatest way the Holy Spirit leads us is through his word.

2. THE ENEMY HATES THE WORD

“God said let there be light and there was light.”

Isaiah 55:11 “so shall my Word be that goeth forth out of my mouth and not return onto me void.” That word void means empty or ineffective.

And not return to me empty or unproductive, but it will accomplish that which I please and prosper into wherein I send it.”

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
Verse 14 says, “the word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory.”

3.THE WORD ALWAYS PRODUCES

“so shall my Word be that goes forth out of my mouth it shall not return onto me empty, void, unproductive but it shall accomplish that which I please and it shall prosper in the thing wherein I send it.”

Religion says we are just going to leave everything up to God.

1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible (decaying) seed, (parentage) but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
God’s word is sent forth to produce.

Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. For it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.”

4.THE WORD IS ETERNAL

The Word is the vehicle where the power of God is released.

That word seed is the Greek word sperma.

The seed is the image of the harvest.

Luke 4:18“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to preach the gospel.”
gospel to the poor.
heal the brokenhearted,
preach deliverance to the captives
recovery of sight to the blind
set at liberty those who are oppressed.
But if I say God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes (RECIEVES THE WORD, THE SPERMA) shall not perish but have everlasting life.

“He sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance”.

“Now the Spirit’s on me to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind to set a liberty those who are oppressed.”

Luke 4:31 “Then he went down to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and was teaching them on the Sabbath. And they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.”

Verse 36 says “So they were all amazed and spoke among themselves saying ‘what a word this is! With authority and power he commands the unclean spirit and they come out.’”

I Corinthians 4:20 “For the Kingdom of God is not in word but in power.”
Romans 1:16 “For I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God to Salvation. For everyone who believes: for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith as it is written: the just shall live by faith.”

Greek word “soteria” means to be made whole in every aspect of your life.

Romans 16:24 “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all, amen. Now to him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret from when the world began.”

EPH 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or imagine, according to the power that works in us.
