THE POSTURE OF SUBMISSION

1 Peter 2:18-20
18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.
fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

1 Cor. 7; Col. 3; 4; I Tim. 6; Tit.2; 1Pet. 2; and Philemon all reference slaves.

But they rather undermined the practice by offering great Christian principles of:

The equality of man in the sight of God.
  • A common Christian brotherhood.
  • The spiritual freedom of every man.
  • The Lordship of Christ to which every other lordship is subordinate
  • Francis Foulkes says “The principles of this whole section apply to employees and employers of every age, whether in home business or state”
Four Elements of Submission:

1. WE ARE TO SUBMIT IN FEAR (18)

18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear;
The word subject means to be submissive and obey.

We do this because we have been given a privilege to:
  • Earn a livelihood for our self or family.
  • Serve humanity in providing some need of product or service.
  • Earn money to help the needy and spread the gospel.

1 Peter 1:17
And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear;

2. SUBMIT TO THE GOOD AND UNFAIR (18)

A. The Good: fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

But we need to be careful not to expect:
  • Special treatment
  • Slack off time
  • Greater consideration
  • Over looked for mistakes or inefficiency

B. The Unfair fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
1 Tim 6:1
Let as many bondservants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed.

Eph. 6:5-8
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.
6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.
7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,
8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

3. SUBMIT FOR CONSCIENCE SAKE (19)

19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

A.T. Robertson says: “Suffering is not a blessing in and of itself, but if ones duty to God is involved then one can meet it with gladness of heart.”

Alan Stibbs says: Conscience is best understood in the sense of consciousness…The whole phrase, therefore, means prompted by a conscious awareness of God’s presence and will.
Such a man knows what God sees, and knows what God expects. His concern is to please Him.

Acts 24:16
So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man.

1 Tim 1:19
Holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith.

4. SUBMIT TO RECEIVE GOD’S EXCEPTANCE (20)
For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

Col. 3:23-25
23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.
25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.

The word heartily in verse 23 means “out of the soul”.

1 Cor. 4:1-5
1 Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.
3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by a human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself.
4 For I know nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He who judges me is the Lord.
5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one's praise will come from God.

Revelation 2:20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.

TWO EXTREMES that we need to be careful with:
One is that we demonize everything, and the other is that we ignore the spiritual side of life.
Victory begins with the name of Jesus on our lips but is not consummated until we have the nature of Jesus in our hearts.

We cannot be successful in the heavenly war if we are not successful with the battle in our minds.

1. THE HISTORY OF JEZEBEL

1 Kings 21:25
Surely there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do evil in the sight of the LORD, because Jezebel his wife incited him.

Ethbaal, -  “like unto Baal.”

2. JEZEBEL CHARACTERISTICS

1Kings 16-21; and her death in 2Kings 9.

Jezebel, is Phoenician in origin and means “un-husbanded.”

It allowed her in essence to be acting king!

personality characteristics: manipulation, control, sexual perversion, and idolatry.

a rose with razor sharp thorns.

3. JEZEBELS DEMISE

2 Kings 9:7  'You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.

2Kings 9:30-31 When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it, and she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out the window.
31 As Jehu entered the gate, she said, "Is it well, Zimri, (7 day King) your master's murderer?"
32 Then he lifted up his face to the window and said, "Who is on my side? Who?" And two or three officials looked down at him.
33 He said, "Throw her down." So they threw her down, and some of her blood was splattered on the wall and on the horses, and he trampled her under foot.
34 When he came in, he ate and drank; and he said, "See now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter."
35 They went to bury her, but they found nothing more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.
36 Therefore they returned and told him. And he said, "This is the word of the LORD, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 'In the property of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel;

3. CHARACTERISTICS OF AHAB
  • giving up of authority,
  • passive authority,
  • fears confrontation,
  • denies fault,
  • loves the position
  • would rather make peace at any cost.
  • the Ahab spirit will always sacrifice the future good for peace today.
-First we need to pray.
- surrendered to Christ-likeness.
- Our way of thinking about church needs to expand from a building to being a life style.
- Wives need to allow men to lead their home under the biblical pattern and stop the manipulation.
- Husbands need to lead in a Christ-like manner. Conquer the nature of Ahab.

Rebellion – submission
Proud and haughty – meek and lowly hearts.
Control – gentle and willing to yield
Witchcraft, immorality, fear, discouragement – love and faith.

1. THE MIND
2. THE CHURCH
3. THE HEAVENLY PLACES

1 John 4:3
Every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus, is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

- “Now don’t you get to fanatical”
- “Those people are to emotional”
-“You just think your better than us”
-“Don’t you tell me what to do I have been going to this church all my life”
-“You people are too intense and taking this God thing way to serious”.

 2Thess. 2:4
He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming (show off, demonstrate, accredit, exhibit) himself to be God.

1 John 2:18
Literally they confessed the person of Jesus not just the name Jesus!
They were those who were labeled by attitudes of love, commitment, and sacrifice.

1 John 4:6-8
We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

nurtures (to supply w/ nourishment, to educate, to further develop)

The antichrist spirit literally opposes truth, especially new truth that reveals its nature.

These congregations often mistake a religious reverence for holiness when all the time it is indeed hollowness.

Eph. 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

11-14-10 PM - Be A Know It All

Click here (or right click and select "save as") to download "BE A “KNOW IT ALL"

1 Peter 2:9-10
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1. KNOW WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE WE ARE: (Vs. 9)

First: We become a chosen generation.
The Greek words actually mean a chosen or elect race.
Isa.43:20-21 20 "The beasts of the field will glorify Me; The jackals and the ostriches Because I have given waters in the wilderness And rivers in the desert, To give drink to My chosen people.
21 "The people whom I formed for Myself, Will declare My praise.

He does this by causing us to be:
  • Born again – John 3:3
  • Renewed in our mind –Rom. 12:2
  • A new creature – 2Cor. 5:17
  • A new man – Eph. 4:24
  • A new spirit – Rom. 7:6

Second: We become a royal priesthood.

“ROYAL” Priesthood, meaning we belong to the Sovereign Majesty of the Universe, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

John 15:7
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.

Third: We become a holy nation.
Holy (hagios) – separated set apart different.

2 Peter 3:10-12
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, on account of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!

Forth: We become a peculiar people.

Exodus 19:5
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 0908

2. KNOW WHAT OUR PURPOSE IS: (Vs. 9)

To “show forth” means to –
speak forth, to publish abroad, to set forth.

The word “praises” according to Alan Stibbs in his commentary on 1 Peter means – virtues, excellencies, the supreme qualities of God.

He has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Mark 16:15
Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Acts 4:20
For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

Psalm 66:16
Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.

3. KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU
(Vs. 10)
Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

First: You once were not a people, but now have been made a people of God.

John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Romans 8:15
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Second fact covered is:

Lam.3:22-23 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Rev. 19:7
"Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready."

1. READINESS THROUGH UNITY

Isaiah 58:12
"And those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age-old foundations; And you will be called the repairer of the breach, The restorer of the streets in which to dwell.

As he draws the Church into this last day “mortar sling”, things such as gossip and faultfinding will disappear and be replaced with the essentials of the Kingdom such as intercession and love.

The raptured church will be one that is free of strife and carnal divisions.

2 Thess 2:1  Matt.24:31

Jeremiah 23:1-2 sends out a strong warning to the leaders who are building their own kingdom.
"Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture!" declares the LORD.
2. Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel concerning the shepherds who are tending My people: "You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not attended to them; behold, I am about to attend to you for the evil of your deeds," declares the LORD.

John 10:16 …there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

The passage we read earlier in Jeremiah 23 continues in verse 3-5 "I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number.
4 I will place shepherds over them who will tend them, (apostolic- to set order) and they will no longer be afraid or terrified, nor will any be missing," declares the LORD.
5 "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.

2. PROTECT YOUR HEART THROUGH WORSHIP

Worship is showing the worth of the object that is being worshipped.

John 4:23
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

In this last battle your life will be weighed upon the scale of worship; to whom will you bow?

The enemy has easy access to the soul that is not protected by true worship of God!

In warfare worship is a wall around the soul.

Romans 8:28a
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,

 2 Cor. 12:9-10
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

11-07-10 PM - WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HOUSE

Click here (or right click and select "save as") to download "WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HOUSE"

1Peter 2:4-8
As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him--
5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6 For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,
8 and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.

1. THE CHIEF CORNOR STONE 2:4
As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him.

Heb. 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

John 6:44
"No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Notice verse 4 says as you come to him, the living Stone.

Jeremiah 2:11
Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods at all.) But my people have exchanged their Glory for worthless idols.

2. THE CHRISTIANS 2:5-6

A. Verse 5 tells us it is a spiritual house.

B. The church is also a holy priesthood.
To represent men to God and to present God to men.

C. Why are we made priests before God?

5. …offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

* Our bodies – Rom. 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Romans 12:1-2 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.
2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

* Our life – Eph 5:2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

* Our praise – Jer. 33:11 The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD.

* Our good works and finances – 1Tim 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
* Our spiritual sacrifices – Gal 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Psalm 4:5 Offer the sacrifices of    righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.

D. We are a part of the fulfillment of prophecy
6 For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

3. THE CRITIC
7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,
8 and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall."
They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.

What causes men to stumble?
  • They can’t think of Him as anything other than a man like themselves.
  • They cannot believe the virgin birth.
  • They cannot believe that He was sinless.
  • They cannot believe His death was anything more than a martyr.
  • They cannot get past His resurrection as anything but a tale.

LK 22:67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

Due to a computer glitch, we are missing the first 10 minutes of the service.

Great and terrible day of the Lord” - Mal.4:5

1 Cor. 12:7-11
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

Matthew 9:4 He knew the evil thoughts of the religious leaders.
Matthew 12:25 After casting out a demon and healing the blind eyes and mute tongue of a man He was accused of being led by Satan.

To have the mind of Christ on any matter it is important to first have the heart of Christ.

John 12:47
And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.

John 17:18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

1 WHAT IS DISCERNMENT?
Spiritual discernment is the grace to see into the unseen -

Discernment is not a faculty of our own minds.

When ever we do not move in love we become a menace to the body of Christ.

Matthew 7:1-3;5
Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

2. THE IMPORTANCE OF REPENTANCE
"tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine" Ephesians 4:14.
Matthew 7

3. ELIMINATING FALSE DISCERNMENT
Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

Phil. 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,

John 7:24
“Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."

Love precedes peace, and peace precedes perception.

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Matthew 12:34 For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

Col. 3:15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
