1Cor. 11:23–24   Mal. 1:6-13;    3/20/11 AM
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;
24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
Read Malachi 1:6-13

Vs. 13 “Sniff at it contemptuously”
Eph 3:20-21
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Gal. 6:7-9
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

1 Kings 18:21
 Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." But the people said nothing.
Baal means: “owner” “lord” “husband”
Eccl. 5:1
Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.
James 4:8
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.


1. REVIVAL & COMMUNION
A. Every communion ought to bring revival
1. Calling us back to our first love.
2. A time for new dedication.
B. What the Lord’s Table is not
1. It is not a means to salvation.
2. It is not the table of this church alone.
“All who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”

C. What is Communion?
    It commemorates the death of Christ. “This do in remembrance of me”
    To signify, seal and apply to believers all the benefits of the new covenant.
In this ordinance Christ ratifies His promises to His people.
1.    On going fellowship with Christ.
2.    Healing because of His broken body.
3.    Forgiveness of sin through His shed blood.
4.    The coming of the Holy Spirit which is our guarantee of Christ return.
5.    No need for continued animal sacrifices.
2. COMMUNION IS A TIME OF EVALUATION
A. Communion is a Time for Looking Backward 23–25
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;
24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

25 In the same way He took the cup also, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
1. Looking back to the cross
2. The cross is our message 1Cor. 1:18
For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is (not was or might be) the power of God.
Other messages are temporal but the message of the cross lasts
3. Remembering the time it became personal
4. What does Christ’s death mean to you?

Resurrection. "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" ...Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
B. Communion is a Time for Looking Inward
(vv. 27–33)
27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he does not judge the body rightly.
30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.
31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we should not be judged.

32 But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord in order that we may not be condemned along with the world.
33 So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

1. The case at Corinth
a. Taking communion lightly
b. Some sick and some had died

2. A heart-searching time- examine.

3. How to avoid chastening (v. 31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we should not be judged.)

4. Time for breaking down barriers
C. Communion is a Time to Look Outward

1. Communion is evangelistic.

2. The call to sinners to see the gospel in the symbols of Christ’s death.

3. After the cross came commissioning.
Mt.28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

4. Every communion should send us out to reach the lost


D. Communion is a Time for Looking Upward
(v. 26)
 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
1. “Till he comes”
2. Jesus is coming
3. The great reunion in heaven
 How will this Communion Change your Life?

Those who didn’t delay and who took a stand are those who survived the world trade center.
Those who don’t delay and take a stand spiritually are those who respond to God’s calling and are saved.
If you've never responded to God's call, why don't you do it now as we remember Jesus' sacrifice?
As we take the juice that represents his blood, and the bread that represents his body-- respond to his call. "And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
