11-22-09 PM - Learning to Live Again: Living A Life of Submission

James 4:6b-12
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you--who are you to judge your neighbor? – (NIV)

SUBMISSION
"Submit yourselves...to God" James said.
We often treat our spiritual general with rejection instead of submission.

SUBMISSION

THE PROUD
(Proverbs 16:5) NIV.
2) THE HUMBLE

OPPOSITION

He is Real
He is Rebellious
He lies
In John 8:44 Jesus called him "the father of lies.“

OPPOSITION

He is Real
He is Rebellious
He Tempts
He is Relentless
"prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour" 1 Peter 5:8

COOPERATION vv. 11-12.

COOPERATION vv. 11-12.
It is an infringement on love
It is an infringement on God
3) It is an infringement on others
"It doesn't matter whether you win or lose but how you play the game".

11-22-09 AM - A Question, A Cause, and a Lost Nail

Click here to download: A Question, A Cause, and a Lost Nail

1) The Question: “What are you going to do with FREEDOM?”

Gal. 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free…”
Gal. 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

In the Galatian church they had traded the bondage of SIN for the bondage of RELGION.
Are there traditions in churches today that are “good” things, but that have become idols?

Freedom is living in the Spirit apart from “obligation” to God.

2) The Cause: Finding a Cause Worth Fighting For

Why a cause? The alternative to finding a cause to fight for is to become a weekend warrior. A MERCENARY is a soldier with no cause to fight for!

Revolutionaries who found their cause!!!
-Gideon – Judges 6; Hebrews 11:34
-Paul – Acts 9:23-25
-Rosa
-“Ti”

3) A Lost Nail

God’s UNIVERSAL will is the will of God for every believer!

1 Thess. 4:3,4,7    1 Pet. 1:15
1 Thess. 5:18        1 Tim. 2:1-4
2 Pet. 3:11        Exodus 20:3-17
Matt. 22:37-40

The will of God for your life comes down to these two commands:
Love GOD; Love PEOPLE!!!

You weren’t just freed FROM something – you were freed FOR something!!!

11-15-09 PM - Learning to Live Again: Living A Life of Serenity

Click here to download: Live A Life Of Serenity

1) The PROMISE of Peace

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
- John 16:33

Not only does Jesus not take away all of our troubles, He promises us that there will be more to come.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
- Matthew 6:34

2) THE PERSON OF PEACE
You will not live a life of serenity by seeking peace from any other source but Jesus Christ.
He would be a, “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6) and that is what He is.

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
- Romans 5:1-2

Why do we have peace? “because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.”
Done, Finished, no more needs to be added.

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
- John 14:27

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
– Isaiah 26:3

1. The first word is “thoughts” or “mind.”
In fact, the disruption of our inner peace occurs when the mind is fixed on the wrong goal, or no goal at all, or too many goals.

2. The second word is “fixed.”
James 1:8
James said: Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

3. The third word is “God.”
"Our hearts are restless until they find rest in God."

4) THE POWER OF PEACE
1. The Power of Intimacy with God
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

2. The Power of Mental and Emotional Stability
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

3. The Power of Christian Community
Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. Ephesians 4:3

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next.
Amen.

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world , but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12:1-2 (NASB)

1. A PERMANENT SACRIFICE – “PRESENT”
The word “present” is the same word that was used in the Old Testament of the priest who would go up to the altar in front of the temple.

Jesus said: “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.”
Luke 9:23-24

When we present ourselves for service it is expected to be a permanent sacrifice.

2. A PERSONAL SACRIFICE – “YOUR”

My job is to examine my own heart and life and make the sacrifice that God wants ME to make for HIS kingdom.

Jesus said, “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.” – John 15:16

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
- Gal. 5:22-23

What sacrifice am I making?
What would not get accomplished for God’s Kingdom if I wasn’t doing it?

3. A PHYSICAL SACRIFICE – “BODIES”
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice…

We are called to use our bodies to accomplish the right things for God.
Romans 6:12-14
Gal. 5:19-21

4. A PRACTICAL SACRIFICE – “LIVING AND HOLY”

God wants us to offer ourselves as a sacrifice that is living, breathing, and producing.

God wants us to offer ourselves as living sacrifices daily laying aside our own desires to follow Him,

Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.
– Hebrews 13:15-16

God’s direction is very clear – now it is up to us to follow.

11-01-09 AM - Power in the Wilderness

Click here to download POWER IN THE WILDERNESS

Luke 4:1-13

1. If you need power in the Wilderness, quote the Word of God.
Pick up the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God and use it.
Be like Jesus, look at the devil and say, Satan, IT IS WRITTEN.

2. If your having a wilderness experience, praise and worship your way through it.
Praise and worship are a little different……

3. Stay full of the Holy Ghost and power!
Luke 4:1 Then Jesus being filled with the Holy Spirit…..Led into the wilderness
Luke 4:14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee.
Acts 1:8 But you shall have power after that the Holy Ghost has come upon you…
When your in the wilderness, that’s not the time to run from the Spirit, that’s the time to run to the Spirit!

Don't Give Up!
